Western Hemisphere Championship
The Lake Sunapee Yacht Club and the Lake Sunapee Star Fleet have been chosen to host the International Star Class Western Hemisphere Championship. This will be the third time LSYC has been so honored.
The regatta is scheduled to begin on August 20, 2022 and will be extremely important as it will be the regatta proceeding the STAR CLASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AND 100TH YEAR CELEBRATION to be held in Long Island Sound near Larchmont, NY.
We expect many World and Olympic sailors to attend including Paul Cayard, World Champion and the first American to win the grueling and treacherous Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, Paul has said “ Lake Sunapee represents the heart and soul of sailing”, Lars Grael World and Olympic Champion from Brazil, who won the Western Hemisphere here in 2014 said “The best camaraderie and best hospitality I have ever had in my sailing career”, Many other Champions Mark Reynolds, winner of two gold medals and Star World Champion, Augie Diaz, World Champion Star & Snipe, John McCausland, World Champion and a regular at the Sunapee Open, the list goes on with World and Olympic Champions, Eric Doyle, George Szabo. Many of these sailors have sailed here at Sunapee and generously held fundraising for our junior program and sailing clinics.
We hope all members will volunteer to make this the best possible regatta ever and continue our long tradition hospitality.
Please contact myself John Chiarella, [email protected] or co chairman Brad Nichol, [email protected] to see how you can be involved.
