LSYC prides itself on a thriving sailing community that caters to all skill levels, offering a range of activities from leisurely cruises to competitive regattas. Our commitment to sailing is seen through our diverse programs which include youth lessons, family sailing, and robust regatta competitions.
Junior Sailing Program
Our Junior Yacht Club (JYC) Sailing Program is the heart of youth sailing at LSYC. We focus on developing young sailors in a fun and supportive environment. Our JYC Sailing program is designed to introduce the joys of sailing to our younger members. With a focus on safety, skills development, and fun on the water, we offer lessons for various age groups and skill levels.
Meet the Instructor
Andrew BlagdenDirector - Junior Sailing
This is Andrew’s third year instructing at LSYC, and his first as the Director. A resident of Warner, NH, he is a Junior at Bentley College studying Business Administration. Andrew has a broad experience sailing and racing 420s, Optis, Lasers, and Vipers. Currently, Andrew sails 420’s year-round for the Bentley College Sailing Team. In 2023, he was club champion in the Laser class at his home club, the Manchester Yacht Club in Manchester-By-The-Sea Massachusetts. In addition, Andrew assisted the Dartmouth Summer Sailing program in 2023 at their facility on Mascoma Lake. He was the lead Counselor at the YOLO outdoor adventure camp, and enjoys many outdoor activities including crew, deep sea diving, Nordic skiing, and mountain biking. Andrew is thrilled to return to the lake and share his love for sailing.
Star Fleet
The Lake Sunapee Star Fleet is an active organization hosted by Lake Sunapee Yacht Club that is open to both members and non-members. With weekly races throughout the summer and a series of events that culminate in the prestigious Lake Sunapee Open, sailors can enjoy the thrill of competition and the beauty of teamwork and strategy. Open to members with varying levels of experience, the Star Fleet is a testament to the club's commitment to high-level sailing.
Cruising Fleet
The Lake Sunapee Cruising Fleet is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the sport of sailboat racing on Lake Sunapee. The LSCF has been in existence since 1984. From late May to early September each year, races are held on Lake Sunapee every Wednesday evening and 5 Sunday afternoons. Parties interested in joining the Lake Sunapee Cruising Fleet are encouraged to visit their dedicated fleet website.
Regattas
We host several regattas throughout the season, including the highly anticipated Lake Sunapee Open and the Rig-It-Up Regatta. These events are the pinnacle of our racing season and provide an opportunity for sailors to test their skills, enjoy the camaraderie of the sailing community, and engage in friendly competition.
Racing Volunteers
We're looking for volunteers to help run Saturday sailing races this summer. Whether you're new or experienced, you'll receive training and can try roles like boat driving, mark setting, or timekeeping. It's a great way to be on the water, support sailing at the club, and enjoy a free lunch while you're at it.
